IN THE NEWS: DJ FRESH & SMIRNOFF PRESENT MINDTUNES

A great bit of work: DJ Fresh and Smirnoff have teamed up and today present a new track as part of an intriguing and worthy campaign. The project involves three physically disabled musicians whose brain waves and mind readings were recorded to deliver a rich, melodic pattern of sonic waves. Next, DJ Fresh steps in to finesse the recordings. The end result takes the form of his recent chart smashing ‘EDM’  cum dubstep cum drum and bass cum pop fodder. The track is available on iTunes and all proceeds go to a worthy cause. Click above to hear the song.

IN THE NEWS: EE ANNOUNCE GLASTONBURY PARTNERSHIP

EE have replaced their sister company, Orange, as the official Glastonbury Festival telco partner. The partnership, announced yesterday, will mean festival attendees can expect 4G services (as well as a general reinforcement in mobile phone reception) on site. EE will also be rolling out the traditional telco / festival offerings: line up info, artist info, maps and charge points. The Inquirer has more on the story.

IN THE NEWS: TAYLOR SWIFT AND DIET COKE “STAY EXTRAORDINARY”

Diet Coke and Pepsi are going head to head. As previously reported, Beyonce has recently signed up as brand ambassador for Pepsi, appearing in their TVC’s and debuting new material across the brand’s communications. Almost in retaliation (not really, these partnership ideas would have been hatched many, many months ago), Diet Coke’s new spot features Taylor Swift, another global heavyweight of pop, (thrillingly) supposedly in the process of penning her next single. Taking into the account the creative narrative of each campaign, the respective artists involved and the final executions, we’d say Pepsi wipe the floor on this one. What do you think? NEW WORK: ACE OF SPADES

Jagex, a leading developer of online games, got in touch with a specific license request. To accompany the promotion around the launch of their new “Ace of Spades” combat game, they required online usage rights for “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead for a period of six months. IN THE NEWS: PEPSI OFFER MASSIVE X FACTOR USA PRIZE

This year’s X Factor USA winner will be walking away with an even bigger prize. Pepsi have raised the stakes by offering the champion a $5m dollar recording deal with Syco, the opportunity to develop and record their first single with an accompanying music video – total creative control reportedly remains with the winner and the end product will be premiered at next year’s Grammy Awards ceremony.

IN THE NEWS: ADIDAS SIGN JUSTIN BIEBER FOR ‘NEO’ LAUNCH

adidas have made Justin Bieber even richer this week (his total wealth estimated at $112m – he is 17 years old). The brand has recruited Bieber to front their new NEO style range. He’ll appear in communications, promote the products via his (massive) social network and will take part in a competition.

Entrants will be invited to find his gold shoes via unearthing 5 x clues seeded across the custom Facebook page. The winners will be flown to Miami to meet the star, hand over his trainers and watch him perform. They’ve pulled out the stops when naming the competition too: “NEO: Find My Gold Shoes”.

IN THE NEWS: LIL WAYNE & MOUNTAIN DEW LAUNCH DEWeezy

Of all the deals launched and announced at SXSW 2012, Mountain Dew’s community focused tie up with Lil Wayne stands head and shoulders above the rest. The partnership will focus around a philanthropic endeavour to regenerate and improve the infrastructure of Lil Wayne’s home-town whilst providing opportunities for the area’s youth. Lil Wayne was identified by Mountain Dew as the ideal partner candidate given his entrepreneurial spirit which they believe will act as an inspiration to the town’s disaffected youth. IN THE NEWS: SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA DELIVER BESPOKE TRACK FOR ABSOLUT VODKA

Absolut Vodka have become the latest major brand to commission big name artists for music to be used across communications. This time Swedish House Mafia are in the chair, turning in a typically high octane, trance laden number which fits the brand’s hedonistic image.  “Greyhound” will be made available for purchase via iTunes. You can watch the video above and visit here for yet more Absolut-related music content.

IN THE NEWS: BUICK COMMISSION SONG FROM HELLOGOODBYE

Buick invited the group to record a track inspired by their journey through the Nevada desert in a Buick Turbo. The end result is content focused project called “One From The Road”. Footage was captured of the group scoping the desert and then retreating to the studio to put their track together. The finished product is now available to view via YouTube and the group’s Facebook page.

IN THE NEWS: GUESS AND THEOPHILUS LONDON LAUNCH GQ’S MUSIC ISSUE

To celebrate GQ’s annual music issue, the publication put on a party where music and fashion collided once more. Theophilus London, already the face of Tommy Hilfigger and a man with solid fashion credentials was drafted in to perform at the ‘posathon’. Big things are expected of Theophilus next year so keep your eyes peeled. For now though, he seems to be the property of the fashion set more or less exclusively.
