IN THE NEWS: SAMSUNG IN MASSIVE JAYZ COUP

News and rumours have been in the public domain for some time and now full details of a rather monumental tie up between Samsung and JayZ have surfaced. Firstly, the deal is worth approximately $20 million USD, an unprecedented outlay by Samsung considering the current economic outlook.

Forbes online have it thus: “Samsung signed Jay-Z to a $20 million deal to give away the album on July 4th to the first 1 million users on the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone, the Galaxy S4 smartphone, or the Galaxy Note II tablet. According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung also paid $5 million to offset the costs of the 1 million albums being released for free – $5 for each album download.“Magna Carta” won’t be available to the public until July 7″

There is potential now for brand and artist to forge a longer term relationship which could see JayZ affiliated artists following suit and providing Samsung with pre-release exclusives. There are often pitfalls when companies align with one artist exclusively, after all they’re therefore only appealing to one particular fan-base. However, perhaps JayZ is different given his mass appeal and position as not only a recording artist but also as a hip hop mogul with the ability to break new, global talent.

IN THE NEWS: CONVERSE & YOUNG TURKS PRESENT 100 CLUB GIG

More from Converse, one of a small selection of brands doing genuinely wonderous things in music. This time they have partnered with indie label du-jour, Young Turks, to present an event at the 100 Club (which of course Converse also have a stake in and quite famously “saved” from administration only last year). The line up will see Chairlift, Sampha and Jack Penate man the stage with DJ sets from the (quite frankly amazing) Bullion and John Talabot. See you there! Read more here.

NEW MUSIC: GONJASUFI – MU.ZZ.LE

BRANDAMP RECOMMENDS GONJASUFI – MU.ZZ.LE

Officially released a few weeks ago, Gonjasufi’s sophomore album for Warp Records is enjoying widespread critical acclaim and quite right too: it is a brilliant album. When not crafting mind blowing, psychedelic songs that seem to reference everything from 60’s folk and rock to West Coast hip hop, Gonjasufi is in fact a yoga teacher. He attributes his wholly unique and gravelly vocal prowess to this practise, he claims he has learnt to “project from [his] stomach more”.

Check out some songs below and buy the album from the Bleep.com on-line store.

Firstly they announced the launch of  their very own online radio station, on air for one week only (sorry we’ve missed it!) and now a tasty looking remix package is in our midst, with a superb cast of contributors. Check out just a few of the new mixes below and keep your eyes peeled, they’re hitting the shops soon.

NEW MUSIC: KING MIDAS SOUND “WITHOUT YOU”

BRANDAMP RECOMMENDS KING MIDAS SOUND “WITHOUT YOU”

King Midas Sound curate and commission a remix project and reinterpretation of their 2009 debut “Waiting For You”. The selection of  artists invited to re-imagine the original material is very exciting on paper and the end product does not disappoint. There is something for everyone here. Our favourites (though this album is to be justifiably filed under “all killer no filler”) come from Joel Ford, Gang Gang Dance, Flying Lotus and Mala.
